Large Antique Green Glaze Pot
A unique and beautifully formed confit pot with two handles from Puglia. The antique pot with its beautiful 3-D florets and stylised handles is common to the small Salento town of Lucugnano. The antique piece dating back to the late 1800s would have been traditionally used for preserving food and local delicacies in olive oil. This hand thrown vessel is particularly rare with its iridescent deep green glaze, as pottery from the southern Pugliese town are usually glazed in a deep brown or black colour. The decorative handles and raised flower relief sets this piece apart from other confit pots from Puglia, usually more robust and less delicate in style. Today this wonderful pot would be ideal as a vase for fresh flowers or as a decorative display piece.
