Large Antique Hand Painted Bowl
A large hand painted serving bowl that is typical of the nearby region of Calabria. Dating back to the late 1800s, the designs are typically very simple with green circular motifs and abstract patterns that decorated crockery used for everyday life. The old terracotta pottery from Calabria, like those of Puglia, are thick and robust, and have a lovely handmade, rustic feel. This bowl would have been primarily used for domestic use and more specifically to serve a family during meals - where they would have all eaten from the single plate (beginning with the father, and ending with the children). Today the bowl would make a lovely decorative display item or a great centrepiece. Also available in a matching medium size bowl as seen in the images.
Found in Lecce
the baroque jewel and capital of the Salento.
Dimensions: H15cm x W35cm x D35cm
These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
