Large Antique Hand Painted Vase
A charmingly rustic, hand painted jar historically used for pharmaceuticals in a characteristic design found in the southern regions of Puglia, Basilicata and Calabria. Made in the late 1800s, this unique large hand thrown ceramic vase is decorated with splashes of vivid painted lines - turquoise greens, mustardy yellow, and earthy ochre - on a cream slip glazed base and green edging on the rim. The wonderful patina is consistent with age and use and shows signs of wear, which gives the vase its immense character. The abstract hand-painted effect gives this vase a delightful energy and spontaneity. It’s the ideal vessel for fresh flowers or as a decorative display piece. Also available with matching smaller version to create the perfect set.
Found in Lecce
the capital of the Salento famous for its baroque architecture.
Dimensions: H29cm x W18cm x D13.5cm
