Large Antique Marbled Vasetto
A large antique handmade ceramic ‘vasetto’ with a unique iridescent marbled glaze. This vivaciously glazed pot was originally used for preserving foods such as anchovies or sardines fresh from the Mediterranean, and likely dating back to the early 1900s. The old technique of a marbled glaze is common to Grottaglie and the cylindrical confit pots found there - a town famous for its age old ceramic craft. It is one of a kind particularly due to its vivid green and maroon flecks that are set against a soft lemon base, with the number 10 etched at the top, near the rim of the pot. The antique piece would be ideal as a vase for fresh flowers or as a decorative display piece to add impact to any space.
Found in Ostuni
the enchanting hilltop town of the valle d’Itria known as ‘la città bianca’ (or white city).
Dimensions: H29cm x W20cm x D20cm
