This large antique serving bowl or ‘coppa’ originates from the southern Italian region of Calabria and dates back to the late 1800s. It features a wonderful internal glaze in pistachio green, with the outer surface left raw and on display. The hand thrown terracotta bowl was used by families for everyday life, and has that magical patina that only the passing of time, exposure to the elements and daily use can authentically bring about. The old terracotta pottery from southern Italy is thick and robust, with that unmistakable handmade feel. Today, the large antique bowl would make a great table centrepiece or fruit bowl, injecting some southern Italian charm to your kitchen or dining space.
