Large Antique Rustic Blue Stripe Bowl

€260.00

A charming hand painted bowl that is typical of southern Italian ceramics, with a minimalism that renders it quite ‘modern’ in design. Dating back to the late 1800s, the large hand thrown bowl originates from Castelli - a town in Abruzzo whose ceramic art has very ancient origins and became one of the most renowned centres for artistic pottery by the 16th century. The antique bowl features wide hand painted blue stripes that border the edge framed by thin lines in ochre brown, set against the creamy white glaze. It would have been primarily used for domestic use up until the mid 1900s, and specifically to serve a family during meal times. The rustic bowl has developed a wonderful crackled patina brought about authentically by daily use and the passing of time. This farmhouse-style piece would make a lovely addition to a kitchen bench top or centrepiece on a table for fruit and vegetables, adding some Italian country charm to any space.
