Large Antique Rustic Bowl with Scalloped Edge

€240.00

This large antique bowl hails from the southern Italian region of Calabria and dates back to the mid 1800s The charming piece features a scalloped edge and hand painted spot designs in ink blue set against a rich buttermilk-hue base. It would have been primarily used for domestic use and more specifically to serve a family during meals. Despite the abstract patterns that decorated this and other antique crockery from the region, the bowls were domestic items, used for everyday life. The old clay pottery from southern Italy is thick and robust, with that unmistakable handmade feel. This rustic bowl has that special patina that only the passing of time and daily use can authentically bring about. Today, the farmhouse-style bowl would make a great table centrepiece or fruit bowl, injecting some southern Italian charm to your kitchen or dining space.
