Large Antique Two Handle Vase with Lid
An antique hand painted vase with two undulating handles and accompanying original lid. Called a ‘ciarla’ in local dialect and dating back to the 1800s, the large vase was primarily ornamental and taking pride of place on the mantle piece of the family home, often gifted to newly weds. It was regularly hand decorated with geometric motifs, as well as landscape scenes, animals and other figures. This large example features a striking traditional Pugliese geometric pattern, hand painted in typical colours - sea blue and mustard yellow. The hand thrown vase is a particularly rare piece coming with its original, intact lid. Today, this antique vessel can be used as vase for fresh flowers or an ideal display piece to add some country charm to any space.
