Antique Green Splatter Yeast Pot
This antique vasetto hailing from the southern Italian region of Puglia dates back to the mid 1800s. This historic example with its wonderfully rotund shape, was originally used for storing the family’s all important mother yeast. The unique green splatter effect on the surface comes from the ancient tradition of ‘smammriato’ - where artisans, in order to conceal defects from enamelling, dripped additional colours on the surface using small branches, especially bunches of thyme or from olive trees as a brush. This unique technique means each piece is one of a kind, with the wonderful colour combination of pistachio green splatters set against the creamy base. It features that magical patina brought about authentically from years of daily use and the passing of time. The charming ceramic vessel is the perfect piece to add some country charm to any home or space.
Found in Ostuni
the charming hilltop town of the valle d’Itria known as la città bianca (or ‘white city’).
Dimensions: H19cm x W21cm x D21cm

These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen. To utilise as a vase, it is recommended to use a separate internal water vase or vials for live stems.
