Passata Bowls, also known as 'limmi,' originate from Puglia and they take the form of rustic, robust bowls. This hand thrown passata bowl dates back to the late 1800s from the southern Italian region of Puglia and was originally used to make tomato passata or to wash fruit and vegetables. The rustic bowl features a charming, glazed interior of splattered lime green over a yellow-hued base. This splatter effect was added to keep insects and flies away from the passata or food. This surface application of the Pugliese limmi was created by hand, meaning each is a unique piece with its own characterful pattern. The large bowl has aged beautifully with that authentic, magical patina from years of daily use, with the external clay unglazed and on display. Please note the two holes at the bottom of the bowl, most likely used to hang/display the bowl. The antique vessel is perfect to add some farmhouse charm to a kitchen or table setting, or as a unique storage vessel.

Found in Lecce
