Medium Antique Deep Green Splatter Passata Bowl
Passata Bowls, also known as 'limmi,' originate from Puglia and they take the form of rustic handmade clay or terracotta bowls. This antique hand thrown example from the early 1900s was originally used to make tomato passata or to wash fruit and vegetables. What sets this passata bowl apart from others is the very unique dense deep sea green splatter glaze interior over a creamy-hued base. The mesmerising splatter effect was added to keep insects and flies away from the passata or food. This surface application of the Pugliese limmi was spontaneously created by hand, meaning each is a unique piece with its own characterful pattern. The medium-sized bowl has aged beautifully with its own particular patina, and the external clay unglazed and on display. The antique vessel makes an ideal fruit bowl, perfect to add some farmhouse charm to a kitchen or table setting. Create impact with the matching green splattered limmi as seen in the images.
