Medium Antique Ivory Glaze Confit Jar
Antique handmade ceramic confit jar in an ivory-coloured glaze and intact lid. These cylindrical ceramics were used for storing food, in which vegetables were conserved in oil and vinegar, or anchovies and sardines in salt. The light pottery known as ‘robba bianca’ represents the finest kind of ‘ceramica rustica’, produced with a pewter glaze and twice fired, and is the most expensive of this rural ceramic. Today it would be ideal for storage or as a decorative display piece and also comes in a matching large size pot to complete the set and add impact on a table or kitchen ledge.
Found in Grottaglie
the small town in Puglia famous for its ceramic craft.
Dimensions: H23.5cm x W14cm x D14cm
These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
