Medium Vintage Passata Bowl
Passata Bowls, also known as 'limmi,' originate from Puglia and they take the form of rustic handmade clay bowls. This early 20th-century hand thrown example was originally used to make tomato passata or to wash fruit and vegetables. The vintage hand thrown bowl features a charming, glazed interior of splattered pesto-hued green over a buttermilk cream base. This splatter effect was added to keep insects and flies away from the passata or food. This surface application of the Pugliese limmi were spontaneously created by hand, meaning each is a unique piece with its own characterful pattern. The large bowl has aged beautifully, with the external terracotta unglazed and on display. The vintage vessel is perfect to add some farmhouse charm to a kitchen or table setting and ready to be used as a fruit bowl.
