Antique Hand Painted Wasp Jug
An antique hand thrown jug historically used for wine and originating from Grottaglie, a town in southern Puglia known for its age old ceramic craft. This very charming ceramic jug has the pinched spout and elegant sculptural form that is typical of traditional Pugliese pitchers. What makes this jug particularly unique is the beautifully rendered abstract design (wasp or flower motif is up for interpretation) in ink blue and black. The jug has two lines in ochre brown that rim the spout and highlights its form. The antique pitcher would make a lovely addition to the kitchen or used as a vase for fresh flowers. Create an impactful display when pared with the matching ceramic vessels as seen in the photos.
