Vintage Green Splatter Passata Bowl
Passata Bowls, also known as 'limmi,' originate from Puglia and they take the form of rustic handmade bowls. This example from the first half of the 1900s was originally used to make tomato passata or to wash fruit and vegetables. It would have been in use up until the 1950s/60s after which industrialisation and mass production of goods made these domestic hand thrown bowls obsolete. The vintage bowl features a charming, glazed interior of splattered pistachio green over a yellow-hued base, leaving the external clay unglazed and on display. Since these limmi were made by hand, each is a unique piece with its own characterful pattern. What makes this bowl even more special is its smaller size, which are less common than the larger passata bowls. The vintage vessel is perfect to add some farmhouse charm to a kitchen and ready to be used as a fruit bowl or serving dish.
