This pair of matching terracotta pots in differing sizes, are the epitome of ‘ceramica rustica’. The antique pots with their spherical body and unique handles were typical of what was used in the whole of southern Italy for cooking legumes. Dating back to the early 1900s, these terracotta cooking pots with 2 handles are traditionally called ‘pignate’. The upper part is glazed so it can be wipe clean for hygiene purposes, not simply decorative. The tonality of the ochre glaze set against the raw terracotta base and its unique patina adds character to the matching pair. Today they would be ideal as a decorative display piece, adding country charm to any space.

Found in Lecce

the Baroque jewel and capital of the Salento.

Dimensions: Large Pot H18.5cm x W15cm x D15cm / Small Pot H13.5cm x W13cm x D13cm

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
