This antique set of x2 original mise-en-carte or weaving drafts are beautifully hand painted in gouache and date back to 1912. Originating from Paris, these drafts served as a bridge between the original design and the woven textile. Prepared on Point Paper with a grid pattern whose lines represent warps and wefts, such drafts provided instructions for preparing the loom and for colour usage. Professional mise-en-carte readers were sometimes employed to assist the weavers and help them understand the designer’s intentions. Even after many years of service in manufacturing, these original artworks still retain their vivid colours, hand drawn grid pattern in graphite pencil, and a factory archive stamp at the back as well as hand written notes by the workers. These x2 prints in original condition have been professionally framed in a wooden frame with a matte black finish and a plexiglass front. They also have a brass hook at the back ready for mounting. The second print has a plexiglass panel at the back so you can conveniently see the makers notes. This unique set would make a beautiful addition to any space.
