Small Antique Hand Painted Fish Bowl
This rare piece of pottery with its hand painted fish motif dates back to the early 1900s and originates from the southern Italian region of Calabria. At its centre is a charmingly naïf depiction of two fish in varying sizes (perhaps representing mother and child) and varying soft hues of pistachio green, ochre brown and mustard yellow. There is a verdant green rim on the edge of the bowl framing the fish against the buttermilk hue base. The fish motif is a popular depiction in southern Italian ceramics in general, as it signifies good fortune and plentitude. With its perfect proportions and charming decoration, this unique and collectable handmade piece would make a lovely addition to any kitchen or table setting.
Found in Lecce
the capital and baroque jewel of the Salento.
Dimensions: H5cm x W13cm x D13cm
These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration.
