This type of vase with its two kinked handles and elegant form was originally used for preserving foods such as anchovies, sardines, figs or olives in olive oil. Commonly known as ‘robba bianca’ in southern Italy, this type of ceramic represents the finest kind of ‘ceramica rustica’, produced with a pewter glaze and is twice fired. Today the farmhouse-style piece would make an ideal vase for fresh flowers or a decorative display piece.
