Vintage Green Glaze Fluted Vase
This vintage hand-thrown vase with half glaze was originally used to hold Holy Water. The vase with its elegant form and fluted spout is typical of these kinds of ceremonial vessels from Grottaglie, Puglia - a town renowned for its age-old ceramic craft. The two handle vase traditionally comes with a half glaze, this one in a deep iridescent green which contrasts with the raw clay base. The half glaze was used for hygienic purposes (to be wiped clean after use) rather than simply decorative, and was a less expensive method than glazing the entire pot. Today, this enchanting piece would be ideal as a vase for fresh flowers or as a decorative display piece to inject colour into any home or space.
