A charmingly hand painted ‘albarello’ or pharmacy jar from southern Italy. Historically, these containers were used by pharmacies to contain spices, herbal products or medicinal preparations such as ointments, powders and electuaries. These jars were often heavily decorated particularly in a gothic style. This mid-century vessel with its elegant form is rendered modern in aesthetic by its hand decorated motif of fauna and flora in a rich ink blue, that is set against an ivory base. Today the albarello is an ideal vessel for fresh or dried flowers.

Found in Ostuni

the charming hilltop town of the valle d’Itria known as ‘la città bianca’ (or white city).

Dimensions: H20cm x W15cm x D15cm

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
