This vintage plate created by I.C.S. (Industria Ceramica Salernitana from Vietri) features a gently scalloped edge with pistachio green border and hand painted fish motif at its centre. Vietri is the small town on the Amalfi coast known for its age old ceramic tradition. This handcrafted plate dating back to the 1920s/30s was created under the direction of Max Melamerson and wife Flora Haag, who made the town a centre for the production of artistic ceramics. I.C.S. was frequented by the major talents from Italy, Germany and beyond (and it was often nicknamed the ‘German colony of Vietri’). The branding on the underside features the famous stylised fish as well as batch numbers. There are also hand painted initials on the front of the plate, most likely belonging to the artist. This unique handmade piece with its charming decoration would make a lovely addition to the kitchen, especially when pared with the matching ceramics from C.A.S. Vietri, available online.
