Vintage Hand Painted 'Zuppiera' by C.A.S. Vietri
This vintage ‘zuppiera’ (soup bowl or terrine) with accompanying lid has a distinctive hand painted all over motif and a vibrant turquoise green glaze. Created by C.A.S. (Ceramiche Artistica Solimene) from Vietri Italy, a small town on the Amalfi coast known for its age old ceramic tradition. This hand crafted piece of pottery was made in the Gambone era of the 1930s/40s. The ceramics created under Guido Gambone’s direction for C.A.S. were characterised by farming and herding scenes such as the woman depicted on this vintage piece. The C.A.S. brand can be seen on the marking on the underside of the pot, along with a batch number. Traditionally la zuppiera was used to hold minestrone or other soups. With its charming decoration, the vintage vessel would make a lovely addition to the kitchen or table setting, especially when pared with the matching ceramics from Vietri, available online.
