Vintage Marbled Jar With Lid
A vintage hand thrown terracotta jar with an intact lid and a whimsical iridescent green and brown glaze. The old technique of a marbled glaze is common to Grottaglie, a town in Puglia renowned for its age old ceramic craft, and was considered an advancement from the cream glazed confit pots. Originally these terracotta jars were used for preserving foods such as marmalades, quince paste (a local specialty), pumpkin seeds, biscuits or roasted chickpeas. Today, it would be ideal for storage or used as a vase for fresh flowers.
