Vintage Sgraffito Jug
A vintage terracotta jug with its sgraffito (‘scratched’) surface decoration and beautiful form. Its elegant handle, spout and spherical body features a drip glaze of ochre, orange and teal green that is set against its raw, earthy terracotta base. This large, hand-thrown jug is impressive due to its scale and with its geometric pattern, making it a truly one of a kind piece. It would have been originally used to hold water or wine, its thick clay keeping it fresh and cool in the summer months. Today, the wonderful item can be used as a vase for flowers or as a decorative display piece.
Found in Ostuni
the charming hill top town in the valle d’Itria known as the città bianca (‘white city’).
Dimensions: H30cm x W25cm x D23cm
These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration.
