x2 Large Antique Creme Glazed Plates
An antique pair of large handmade serving plates with a creamy buttermilk glaze. Dating back to the early 1900s, the simple yet elegant design is common to Grottaglie, a town in southern Puglia famed for its age-old ceramic craft. The ivory pottery known as ‘robba bianca’ represents the finest kind of ‘ceramica rustica’, produced with a pewter glaze and twice fired, and is the most expensive of this rural ceramic. The old pottery from Puglia, like this plate has a rustic handmade, farmhouse feel, and traditionally would have been in daily use at family meal times. The two farmhouse plates are particularly unique due to their large proportions and that they were found as an intact, matching set. Today the hand thrown plates would make a lovely addition to a kitchen or table setting, especially when pared with the matching pieces as seen in the images.
Found in Cisternino
the charming white-washed hilltop town of the valle d’Itria.
Dimensions: H4cm x W33cm x D33cm
These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
