Antique Hand Painted Bird Motif Bowl
This large, hand thrown terracotta bowl features a very charming hand painted design with a central bird motif. Dating back to the 1800s, the elegantly designed bowl showcases the skill and attention to detail of the artisan/potter. What makes this piece stand out are the wonderful pastel colours used - soft blue, turquoise green and mustard yellow are set against the milky-hued base. The old pottery from southern Italy, like this bowl, is thick and robust, and has a lovely handmade, rustic feel. The well loved piece shows its characteristic signs of age with a wonderful patina brought about from years of daily use. This deep bowl would have taken pride of place in a family home and today would make a lovely addition to a table setting, as decorative display or a great centrepiece for fruit.
