This extra large antique confit pot has a very unique hand painted abstract design adorning the front. This confit pot was made in the late 1800s and originates from the southern Italian region of Calabria. The free spirited motif in pistachio green and ochre brown, most likely signifying a bountiful harvest, is set against a soft buttermilk-hue base. Originally used for preserving foods such as anchovies, sardines, figs or olives in olive oil, it was often topped with a handmade wooden lid, or linen cloth tied with a rope, to keep insects out. What sets this confit pot apart (besides its extra large size) is the spontaneous motif making it one of a kind and giving the piece a very modern aesthetic. Today this large hand thrown vessel would be ideal as a vase for fresh or dried flowers, or as a decorative display piece to add farmhouse charm to any home or space.

Found in Squillace

a hilltop town in Calabria known for its ancient ceramic craft.

Dimensions: H36cm x W25cm x D24cm

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
