This extra-large hand painted serving plate is typical of southern Italian stoneware. Dating back to the early 1900s, the charming ink blue diamond design around the rim is characteristic of the region of Calabria (Italy’s toe). The old pottery from southern Italy, like this plate, is thick and robust, and has a lovely handmade, rustic feel. The well loved piece, although in perfect condition, shows its characteristic signs of age with a wonderful patina brought about from years of daily use. The large plate would have been in domestic use up until the mid 1900s, and specifically to serve a family during meal times, where they would eat off the same plate beginning with the father and ending with the children. The antique platter would make a lovely addition to the kitchen, as decorative display or a great centrepiece on a table for fruit.

Found in Lecce

Dimensions: H6cm x W40cm x D40cm

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration.
