XL Antique Hand Painted Plate

A charming hand painted platter that is typical of Pugliese ceramics. Dating back to the early 1900s, the hand painted royal blue lines in varying widths are set against the lovely buttermilk glaze, and this minimalism renders it quite ‘modern’ in design. The old terracotta pottery from Puglia, like this large platter, is thick and robust, and has a lovely handmade, rustic feel. It would have been primarily used for domestic use up until the mid 1900s, and specifically to serve a family during meal times, where they would eat off the same plate beginning with the father and ending with the children. This piece would make a lovely addition to the kitchen, as decorative display or a great centrepiece on a table for fruit.

Found in Lecce

the capital and baroque jewel of the Salento.

Dimensions: H6cm x W40.5cm x D40.5cm

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
