XL Antique Hand Painted Rustic Bowl
This extra large antique serving bowl or ‘coppa’ from Calabria dates back to the late 1800s, and features a unique hand painted design in brown ochre. The internal surface is glazed in a buttermilk hue, with the outer surface left raw and on display. Despite the abstract patterns that decorated this and other antique crockery from the region, the bowls were domestic items, used by families for everyday life. The old clay pottery from southern Italy is thick and robust, with that unmistakable handmade feel. This large rustic bowl has that special patina that only the passing of time and daily use can authentically bring about. Today, the hand-thrown bowl would make a great table centrepiece or fruit bowl, injecting some southern Italian charm to your kitchen or dining space. Perfect when pared with the matching farmhouse bowls from Calabria as seen in the images.
Found in Squillace
a hilltop town in Calabria known for its ancient ceramic craft.
Dimensions: H15cm x W42cm x D42cm
These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
