XL Antique Hand Painted Terracotta Bowl
A large hand painted terracotta serving bowl from Grottaglie dating back to the late 1800s, with its unique spirited motifs and number 55 at centre. Despite the abstract patterns that decorated this and other antique crockery from the region, the bowls were used by families for everyday life. The old terracotta pottery of Puglia is thick and robust, and has a lovely handmade, rustic feel to it as well as special patina. This bowl would have been primarily used for domestic use and more specifically to serve a family during meals - where they would have all eaten from the single plate (beginning with the father, and ending with the children). Also available in a medium-sized version, perfect to coordinate as a lovely decorative display item or a great centrepiece.
Found in Grottaglie
the small Salento town famous for its age old ceramic craft.
Dimensions: H13.5cm x W39cm x D39cm
These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
