XL Antique Iridescent Glaze Amphora
An antique hand-thrown amphora from the Puglia region with a charming form and unique iridescent glaze. Originally this XL example would have been used for holding wine or water to keep it fresh for farmers working the land on those hot, long summer days. The luminous ochre glaze at the top, set against the raw clay, was used for hygiene purposes to wipe clean rather than simply decorative. This original piece has a unique surface texture and wonderful patina from daily use. Today the piece can be used to create a truly impactful decorative display and add some of that farmhouse charm to any home or space.
Found in Ostuni
the charming hilltop town of the valle d’Itria known as ‘la città bianca’ (or white city).
Dimensions: H48cm x W29cm x D29cm
These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
