XL Antique Pugliese Orcio
An antique ‘orcio’ or ‘capasone’ made in the early 1900s in Puglia and found in Lucugnano. With a distinctive glaze, unique spherical proportions and handles, and a wonderfully aged patina to the terracotta this extra-large amphora has an abundance of character. The rich colour palette of ochre, burgundy and mustard adds to its personality as well. This terracotta amphora has seen over 100 years of service to its family - and was originally used to hold wine, and has an opening at the bottom where a cork stopper would hold the contents. A beautiful and historic example, it naturally shows some charming signs of age from years of daily use and exposure over time. Today, the extra large hand thrown vessel would make the perfect outdoor centre piece on a terrace or garden.
Found in Lucugnano
a small town in the southern tip of Puglia known for its ceramic craft.
Dimensions: H91cm x W55cm x D55cm
These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
