A charming antique confit pot dating back to the mid 1800s, originally used for preserving foods such as anchovies, sardines, figs or olives in olive oil. This type of pot is commonly associated with the Grottaglie region of Puglia, known for its age old ceramic craft. What sets this confit pot apart from others is its extra large size as well as unique faded half glaze in white, with an almost polka dot effect coming through and bright yellow stripe midway. This robust pot is hand thrown in terracotta which is evident on the unglazed lower half, with a magical patina that has gently eroded with the passing of time. The two handle rustic pot features a lip with indent on the external upper edge where a cloth would have been tied with a rope to cover its precious contents. Today the antique piece is ideal to add some farmhouse charm to any home or space, indoors or out.

Found in Grottaglie

the small town in Puglia known for its age old ceramic craft.

Dimensions: H29cm x W31cm x D25cm
